DVD Cover Analysis

'Let There be Rock' by ACDC
Digipaks are a patented style of compact disc or DVD packaging Digipaks typically consist of a book style with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD or DVD attached to the inside. DVD Digipaks can apply to all types of media entertainment such as; Films, TV shows, Games, Music or even books. digipaks are a great way for Artists to create a sense of personalisation with the audience, as within the pack it may include special features such as – interviews, live gigs and exclusive tracks. The basic structure and design of a digipak will include a CD, a booklet or poster-which can usually be found within the left inside fold of the case and also a DVD which can be found either next to the CD or as part of a separate packing within the digipak.

  • Key elements of Digipaks :- Photo of artist, record company logos, DVD/CD logos.
  • Text: Text is included on the digipak  such as the record company name and website title contents, bonus material, director and people featured on the DVD
When making my digipak I will need to consider the design of my digipak and how it will represent the band. The ideas for my music video may also play a key part in my design as I may consider using stills taken from video shoots on my digipak as it will convey the style of the song. The initial design for my digipak will be a simple booklet design as I feel it will go with the simplistic design of the cover and insert booklet.

Britney Spears 'Femme Fatale'

Beyonce 'I Am' World tour

Muse 'Live at The Royal Albert Hall'

Here are 3 examples of album DVD covers, as you can see they all feature an image on the front that relates to the artist or band. All of these have the conventions for a DVD digipak, including the band or artist logo, DVD logos, and information about special features.

Final Film Shoot

Here are the videos from the very last video shoot, unfortunately I was not able to be there due to unforeseen circumstances. The shoot took place at Charlie's house and narrative shots were taken for the music video. The footage feature Charlie getting out of bed and getting ready to meet his girlfriend. The footage also features Charlie falling back into bed after his downward spiral, this is the same sort of transition that was used in the Rizzle Kicks video 'Down With the Trumpets'. The majority of footage was taken in Charlie's room as  as it had the perfect mise-en- scene to show the sombre mood that is  usually in the Indie Genre.

Photoshoot Simalrities

Looking at out photoshoot you can see simalirities to existing band photos.
This includes the way in which the band members are positioned and the sort of clothing that they wear.

This shows Matt Bellamy the lead singer of Muse as being the centre of the image

The killers black and white photo

The Friendly Fires

Noah and the Whale

Coldplay

All of these photo use mid-shot or close-ups, which we have incorporated into our photos we took of the band.

This particular image uses the rule of thirds thus making
space to place
text or information that is needed

This image shows Charlie or the lead singer as being the dominent character
as he is in the centre of the image

This is a close-up of the band with the lead singer again being the centre of
the image. Charlie's eyes engage with the audience.

As you can see the images we took are similar to existing Muse and band photos in the cases of lighting, the way in which the band are positioned and style of photography. Genre gratification is used  as it looks at what existing fans of Indie bands already like, we have used this and created our product. This makes audeiences want to purchase our product as it relates to existing products.

22nd February:Band Photoshoot

Today at lunchtime the group did a band photoshoot , this included members of the ban Charlie Morgan, Nick Bereen, and Luke Desbrough. Me , Antalia, Tayo and Nick were present at the shoot. We used a digital camera and the green screen. Here are some picture I took using my iPod and the picture that were taken of the band.

Here are what the pictures look like from the digital camera

.

We used a combination of shot during the shoot including close-ups, mid-shots,and side on shots. We also experimented with using the dark screen and light screen to see where the pictures came out most effective, artifivail lighting was used to cause the effect of the band members faces being darker on one side. I think the pictures look most effective using the dark screen with artificial light personally. I will use some of these pictures in my ancillary task.

Ancillary task:T-shirt

Here are some ideas for a t-shirt and hoodie to go with our promotional package. I first started out by finding some templates for hoodies and t-shirts on Google. After this I drew some designs onto the templates. Although some of the designs are simplistic I feel they are effective. Here are the hand drawn designs.

After doing my hand drawn designs I used Adobe Photoshop to make computerised versions of my designs. Firstly I coloured them purple and black which is the colours the group has decided to go for with our promotional opackage items. After colouring the templates I added design. I ad to do the simple designs as the other were a bit too complicated to do.
