Promotional packages are most often used as a tool to promote bands or artists to record labels, the media, and to fans.
What does a promotional pack include?
A short demo of the band or artists music.
A neatly assembled collection of any press which the band or artist has received.
A press release detailing what they are presenting with the promo package for example a new album, tour or single.
A short biography of themselves. If the promotional package is going to the press then a colour photograph can be sent.
- An official website to promote the album containing a taster of the album and upcoming tour dates.
My music video and Digipak need to be linked so that the audience can make visual connections. So in my promotional package I will have my music video, Digipak and also an advertisement.
A digipak
A digipak is the packaging of a compact cd or dvd which usually consists of a six sided binded panel. The digipak can be made from paperboard or cardboard and is most commonly used for special edition cd’s or to promote a new album. The digipak format has become more popular recently for reasons such as it allows more graphics to be displayed, they are considered more environmentaly friendly, and they have an overall more complex and have an interesting appearance. Because of this, nearly all digipaks have a theme. This is the Rihanna's 'LOUD' promotional pack. The main thing that catches the eyes of the audience is the vibrant red colour chosen. The colour of her hair, lips and the roses are all the same shade of red which shows love and passion.This creates a happy and feelgood atmosphere, the cover is quite simplistic with little text apart from the title of the album but this works well as the audience are immediately drawn to the striking images and bright red. The inside photo is spread across the three sections and Rihanna is streched across some roses,her body language creates a relaxed feel. The red roses give a hint of romance and seduction which reflects the music on the album.

Rihanna promotional video
This is the promotional video for Rihanna's new album. The music used for the video is an edit from one of the tracks featured on the album. It starts of quiet and gradually gets louder, this relates to the album name 'LOUD'. It also builds up suspense and makes the audience want to see whats coming next so it captures their attention. The video contains clips from some of her the music videos produced for the ablum this again gives the audience a feel of the music and gives them an idea of what to expect from 'LOUD'. Text appears on the screen, 'Get ready, get crazy, get excited, get... LOUD' This again reinforces the name of the album to the person watching, it also sounds fun and exciting. There are shots of Rihanna smiling and having fun which makes the audience see that the music is fun and upbeat.

Rihanna Myspace advertisements Here are some images of the official website that was produced for the album, as you can see it follows the same the same theme as the album cover and promotional video thus linking the media products together. The website contains tour dates , a store where the album and other merchandise such as t-shirts and keyrings can be bought. Extras included in promotional packages may include things such as USB sticks, keyrings and promotional DVDs featuring songs from the album. |
